Obituary of Fred R. Stever

Fred R. Stever, 90, of Albany Tpke., passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, after a brief illness. He was the son of the lat Frederick Stever and Catherine Nicholson Stever and loving husband for 69 years of Dora Mueller Stever. He was born in Malden Bridge, and after a few brief years in Philmont, built his own home in Malden Bridge, where he resided the rest of his long and full life. He was a lifetime member of the Local#106 Operating Engineers in Albany, and was proud to have helped construct important projects from the Taconic Parkway to I-787 and the Patroon Island Bridge. He honorably served his country in WWII as a Navy SeaBee in the Pacific Theatre. He was very active in the American Legion Post in Malden Bridge and served as Post Commander several times. Until recently, he faithfully participated in the placing of Flags on the Veterans graves on Memorial Day. He was active in the Wesley United Methodist Church and served on the board of Directors overseeing many projects and fundraisers. One of his fondest enjoyments was to attend and support fundraising dinners in other churches and organizations, to visit with old friends throughout Columbia and Rensselaer Counties. He was also a member of the Tri-Village Fire Co., Chandler-Young VFW Post 8162 of Nassau and past member of the Masonic Order. Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Sally L. Walker of Canaan, Pat (Charles) McCleary of New Paltz, and a son, Rick (Dot) Stever of North Greenbush, one sister, Cornelia Hahn of Nassau. He also was the proud Grandfather of five grandchildren, eight great grand children, and one great-great grandson. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters whom he dearly missed. Funeral Service from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau, Saturday, July 3rd at 12:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Contributions may be made in memory of Fred R.
