Dolores Janet "Dee" Reed Howell, 94, wife of the late Raymond J. Howell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Pittston, PA, a daughter of the late David H. Reed and the late Melissa Honeywell Reed, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who loved animals and enjoyed feeding birds, bowling, looking after her grandchildren, and spending time with family. She worked as a telephone operator in New York City and was a sales clerk for B.H. Delson's for twenty-three years.
Dee moved to Flushing, NY in 1946 and moved to Nassau, NY in 1956 where she lived for fifty-nine years before relocating to South Carolina in 2015 with her daughter, Melissa and son-in-law, Richard. She resided with Melissa for thirty-two years where she shared many of life's adventures and together they shared a special mother-daughter bond and love. She was selfless, always putting others before her and was the source of unconditional love for her family. She was an incredible loving presence in the lives of all who knew her, especially her grandchildren, who she so lovingly tended. She especially appreciated the loving attention given her by her son-in-law, Richard and loved him as a son.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Lassor (Richard) of Taylors, SC; grandchildren, Megan Rando (George), Michael Hartshorne (Andrea), and Michelle Howell (Carl); great-grandchildren, Antonia, Juliana, and Jake Scaccia, Emmy, Liam, and Brooks Hartshorne, and Elizabeth, Sean (Cheyenne) and Darren Durfee; and a great-great-granddaughter, Georgia Durfee. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband of forty-four years and her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Reed; and a sister, Helen Isby.
Interment and memorial service will be held in Nassau, NY in June, hosted by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America at secure.pva.org or to the Greenville Humane Society at greenvillehumane.com.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her nurse, Jessica Thomas for her attention, love, and care for Mrs. Howell.
