Dorothy Hart King, Mom, Gram, Gran-Dorothy, aunt Dottie, 91, passed away December 12, 2012, at the Diamond Hill Nursing and Rehab. Facility in Troy. Dorothy was born in Grand Rapids MI to Harold F. and Hazel (Burns) Hart and had been a resident of Nassau since 1933. She graduated from Martin Van Buren High School in 1939 and went on to attend Suny Plattsburgh where she received her Bachelor of Science degree and Suny Albany where she received her Master of Science. Dorothy worked as an associate in occupational education for the N.Y.S. Education Department until 1982, was a coordinator of SERRV mission program for twenty years and was a Cooperative Extension Service Agent for Columbia and Rensselaer Counties. She was a devoted member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Nassau and was extremely proud of being known as a home economist.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Lester W. King, brother, C. Courtland Hart, sister Marion H. Sandford, and her niece who was like a daughter to her C. Dian Swierzowski. She is survived by her; son, Michael P. (Nancy) King, daughter, Jeanne E. (Dan) McLean, brother, Robert W. Hart, grandchildren, Timothy (Andrea) King, Kristin (Bart) Van Buren, Claire and Erin McLean, Sam and Zoe Leary, and Michael (Heather) Thomas, great-grandchildren, Hudson and Reese. Dorothy is also survived by her dear friend and daughter-in-law, Cindy Pour, several nieces and nephews and many members of the Hart and Sanford families.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Dorothy on Saturday December 22, 2012, 11:00am, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Nassau. A time to share memories and stories will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dorothy's name to the Grace United Methodist Church Abiding Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 456 Nassau NY 12123.
