Edith K. Strobl

North Greenbush

Edith K. Strobl, 87, of North Greenbush, formerly of Stephentown, died March 5th at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home. Born in Kirchberg/Pielach (Austria) on August 17, 1923 the daughter of Rudolf and Rosa Kullnig (Remunda). She was educated in Vienna (Austria) and obtained her diploma of "Matura" by attending night school while working at the offices of Degussa. She worked at the office for the American branch of the Allied Occupation Forces in Vienna after the war. She met Erich J. Strobl at mutual friends and was married to him at her parish church in Vienna on Oct. 28, 1948. They moved to New York City in January of 1949. She started working as secretary and office manager at Heller Candy, a company that had roots and fame in Vienna and was located at Patterson NJ. The Strobls moved to River-Edge NJ where they stayed until Erich's retirement from Bunge Corp. in 1976. They settled in Stephentown, NY for 22 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and social activities at the local Historical Society. They took up residence at the Salisbury Estate in Pittsfield, MA in 1998. She lost her husband on August 23, 2003, but retained her residence until March 2007. Then she moved to the Terrace at Hawthorn in East Greenbush, NY, an Assisted Living Community. After a week at the hospital in Feb. 2008, she needed rehabilitation and more care than the Terrace could provide, making it necessary for her to move to the nursing home, Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, today, March 8th, 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, Church St. Nassau. There will be no calling hours. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hackensack NJ.
