Gertrude Jordan Zoch left this life on December 16, 2018. She was 92. A long-time resident of Nassau, NY, she spent her last few years in Radford, Va.
Gertrude was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Joseph A. Zoch, her parents Rodney V. Jordan and Laura Madden Jordan, and her two sisters Virginia "Ginny" Jordan Davis and Betty Jordan. She is survived by her children Laural Dennis, Lynn M. Zoch (Greg Ballantyne), Jo Ann Carinci (Gerald), Daniel J. Zoch (Charina), Dean R. Zoch; her brother-in-law, Ronald Davis; seven grandchildren, five nieces and nephews and several great-grandchildren.
Gertrude retired in 1986 from East Greenbush Central Schools, where she worked in a variety of positions for 16 years. An active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Chandler-Young VFW Post 8162 from 1956-2014, Gertrude twice served as President of the Auxiliary as well as President of the Hudson Mohawk County Council Auxiliary. When the VFW Post transitioned to the Chandler-Young Veterans Association she was awarded honorary membership and card number 001, an honor that meant a lot to her.
A life-long blood donor, Gertrude also was a Red Cross swimming instructor at Lyons Lake, Nassau, where she taught the entire range of water skills from beginning swimming to senior lifesaving to hundreds of local children over the years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nassau, where she attended regularly until moving to Virginia.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm Street, Nassau on Friday, December 21 from 5 – 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning, December 22, with interment following at St. Mary's Cemetery in Nassau.
