Gordon H. Smith

Gordon Hollon Smith, 93, went home to be with the lord on Sunday, July 15, 2012. Gordon was a graduate of St. Lawrence University and MIT. He served overseas with the US Army Air Corps Operational Analysis Scientific Group as a civilian specializing in aircraft targeting radar. After the war, Gordon worked for 27 years as an electrical engineer with General Electric in flight test and rocket development. He went on to work at the Wright Malta Corp. until his retirement in 2005. Gordon was fire chief of the Nassau Hose Company #1 for 14 years. He also served as Rensselaer County deputy fire coordinator for many years. He was instrumental in setting up the emergency radio communications for the county.
Gordon was the husband of Beverly Bushnell Smith and the father of Ronald (Jill) Smith, Richard (Patricia) Smith, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Green, Darrell (Ellen) Smith, Melissa (Michael) Borey, and Michele (Paul) Rosamilia. He was the grandfather of 13 grandchildren and he had 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm Street, Nassau, Saturday at 1:00PM. Following the service, the Nassau Hose Co. #1 is honoring Gordon with a luncheon at the firehouse on Chatham Street for all who would like to attend.
