Nassau- Gretchen (Phillips) Decker passed away at home on April 28, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Hazel (Delamarter) and Robert Phillips. Gretchen was the wife of Russell "Hoppy" Decker who predeceased her, in 2021.
Gretchen was born and grew up in the Village of Nassau, living there for 98 years. She graduated from the Milne School in Albany, NY and the Ellis School of Nursing in Schenectady, NY.
Gretchen was a charter member of the Nassau Rescue Squad. Along with being a stay-at-home mom, in the early years, she was a Girl Scout leader. For many years, Gretchen was a Registered Nurse at Barnwell Nursing Home, in Valatie, NY.
During retirement, Gretchen and Hoppy enjoyed wintering in Florida, at their home.
Gretchen is survived by her children, Donna Decker, Susan Canfield, and Russell Decker all of Nassau, and Jane Visconti of Harrisburg, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
The family wishes to thank Cindy Bevens for all of her help and friendship.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Gretchen's family on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau, NY 12123.
Immediately following the visitation period there will be a graveside service conducted at the Nassau & Schodack Cemetery, Route 203, Nassau, NY 12123.
