Nassau- Hester E. “Sue” (Brennan) Mazzotti, age 99, of Nassau passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Thursday, January 25, 2024. Hester was born on the family farm in Ellenburg, NY to the late Elizabeth (Boyle) and Lawrence Brennan and spent her formative years in Chicopee, MA. She graduated from Chicopee High School, Chicopee, MA, and the Springfield Hospital School of Nursing, Springfield, MA. Hester was married to the late Samuel J. Mazzotti, whom she met while treating him for severe injuries sustained during World War II, at the Cushing General Hospital, in Framingham, MA. She was a Registered Nurse and spent many years as a Nursing Supervisor, with the last 20 years at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home. Hester was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s of the Nativity Church, in Nassau. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed researching her genealogy before the internet. Hester traveled many times to Ireland to further her genealogical research. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, her Yorkie Heidi, and a glass of Bailey’s during the holidays. Every summer she would travel to Cape Cod and go leaf peeping in Vermont in the fall. Hester also enjoyed time spent in the Adirondacks, particularly at her camp at Lake Wakonda. She was a kind and generous person, who was always there when you needed her.
Hester is survived by her children, Stephen E. (Addie) Mazzotti of Nassau; Samuel M. Mazzotti of Schenectady; Sharon L. (Daniel) Colabelli of Old Chatham; her granddaughter, Michelle L. Mazzotti of Concord, CA; step-grandson Daniel F. Colabelli of Rensselaer; step-granddaughters, Megan (Ben) Lombard of Saratoga, Brooke (Eric) Hotaling of Kinnelon, NJ; step-great grandchildren, Elliot Lombard, Adilynn Hotaling, and Wesley Hotaling, numerous nieces and nephews; and her “granddog” Dewey, whom she had a special bond with.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Raymond Brennan, Lawrence Brennan, Harry Brennan, Arthur Brennan, and John Brennan, whom she dearly loved and missed daily.
The family would like to thank Laura and Lynda from Ably TBI NHTD, Linda from the Eddy Heritage House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, the NurseCore and All-Metro Health Care staff, and Community Hospice for their kindness and support.
