James Waters

February 19, 1931 — May 20, 2014

James D. Waters, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2014 at Sunrise Senior Living in Frisco, TX. Born in Rensselaer, NY on February 19, 1931 to Norman E. Sr. and Charlotte Waters, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie L. Waters and his brother Norman E. Waters, Jr.

Jim, as he was known by family and friends, graduated from Albany Academy in 1949. During his first year in college, he signed with the New York Giants National League baseball team. He decided to remain in college and never reported to the Ohio based farm club. Jim went on to receive a degree from Albany College of Pharmacy in 1953. He then served with the US Army stationed in Hawaii for two years. Afterwards, Jim returned to work alongside his father as a licensed pharmacist at the Nassau Pharmacy. In June of 1958 he married Bonnie Mesick, and they remained lifelong residents of Nassau and were members of the Nassau Reformed Church. Jim spent many years coaching Little League and American Legion Baseball and was an active member of the Lions Club. Jim remained at the Nassau Pharmacy for nearly 40 years as a trusted and respected member of the community and a mentor to many. In his retirement, Jim and his wife Bonnie loved golfing and attending events with friends at Normanside Country Club. They spent their winters in Pompano Beach, FL. Later, Jim continued to give back to the community by volunteering at the Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School in Nassau as a senior volunteer in the STARS program. Baseball, especially the Yankees, remained one of Jim's great passions. In the fall of 2010, he moved to Frisco, TX to enjoy time with his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Jami L. Grossman (Ira), son Timothy J. Waters (Ashlea), and his cherished grandchildren Lindsay Grossman, Allie Grossman, Elyse Waters, and Garrett Waters. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St., Nassau on Tuesday, May 27 from 5 to 8 pm. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or online at lbda.org/go/donate.
