Joan F. Rate, 84, of North Greenbush passed away at home on November 1, 2012. Born in Troy to the late Raymond and Isabel (McCormick) Hayes she had lived in East Schodack for fifty eight years before moving to North Greenbush in 2008. Joan was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in Nassau and later a communicant of St. Michael's Church in North Greenbush. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Rate, daughter Donna Rate Wagner and son Joseph R. Rate. Joan is survived by her son Richard (Maureen) Rate of Weymouth MA, daughter, Rosemary (Joseph) Herbst of East Greenbush, grandchildren, William and Andrew Wagner, Robert (Meaghan) Herbst, Thomas (Andrea) Herbst and Daniel and Erica Rate. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Samuel Luc and Grayson Wagner, John and Raegan Herbst.

Funeral service from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home 11 Elm St. Nassau on Monday November 5th at 9:45 thence to St. Mary's Church in Nassau where a Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday November 4th. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery East Schodack. In Lieu of flowers donations in Joan's name may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
