John Tomchik
East Nassau
John Tomchik, 89, of East Nassau passed away November 29, 2011 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Voycice Czechoslovakia in 1922 to the late George and Elizabeth (Gamrat) Tomchik he was one of seven children. The family farm was established in 1932 and John worked there until 1952. He went on to work for Fred Munch of Canaan as an electrician for ten years and then for the local 724 with Ryan Electric for 25 years before retiring in 1985. John was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Nassau since 1932 and belonged to the former Holy Names Society there. The two most important things to John were his family and his church although he did enjoy watching boxing and polka dancing. He was known as the family story teller and always had something to say.
Survived by his loving wife of fifty eight and a half years Patricia (McLaughlin) Tomchik; sons, John (Heather) Tomchik, James (Victoria) Tomchik, and Daniel Tomchik; daughters, Patricia (David) DiCarlo and Jeanne (the late Paul) Cote; brother, Paul (Mary) Tomchik; sisters, Elizabeth (late John) Hrifko and Anne (late Joe)-(late Gene) Baksi-Afinowicz; sister-in-laws, Marie (late John) Risko, Mary Tomchik, Sue Tomchik, Patricia McLaughlin; grandchildren, Melissa (Shawn) Roche, Michelle and Emily DiCarlo, Michael (Britney) Tomchik, Megan Tomchik, Jeffrey, Timothy, Daniel, Patrick, and Ryan Tomchik, , David (Terry) Cote, Catherine (Jake) Gutzwiller, and Ian (Chandra) McDonald; Great Grandchildren, Joe and Danielle Cote, Stephen and Tyler Cote, and Donovan and Liam Tomchik. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his; brothers, John, George and Andrew Tomchik; sister, Mary (Nat) Mistretta; brother-in-law Jack (Florence) McLaughlin and grandson Stephen Cote.
Funeral service Saturday, December 3, 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Nassau where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, December 2nd from 4-8pm at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home 11 Elm St. Nassau. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Nassau.
