Joseph A. Zoch, Jr., 86, of Nassau died at home on January 28, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Born April 29, 1924 in Old Chatham, N.Y., Joe was a Chatham High School graduate, class of 1941. He served in Marine Wing Service Nine in the US Marine Corps during WWII and was stationed in Guadal Canal and the Solomon Islands from 1942-45. Recalled during the Korean War, Joe served as a drill Sergeant in Camp Lejeune, S.C.
He was a member of Plumber and Steamfitters Union, Local 7 in Albany, having passed the apprenticeship program in 1950. He retired in 1987.
Joe was a life member and Past Commander of Chandler Young VFW Post 8162, Nassau. He was also Past Commander of Hudson Mohawk County Councils from 1976-77.
Joe enjoyed snowmobiling in Canada with his wife Gertrude, their cabin in Booneville, and helping friends and neighbors with plumbing problems.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gertrude Jordan Zoch, children Laurel Dennis, Lynn Zoch (Greg Ballantyne), Jo Ann Carinci (Jerry), Daniel Zoch (Charina), Dean Zoch (Ken Koch); grandchildren Bonnie Eddy, Shannon, Jessica, Kristin and Caley Carinci, Lexington and Deanna Zoch and several great-grandchildren; nieces Susan Gorzynski Quinan, Jill Marra McDonald, Barbara Marra Cruden; and nephews Michael Davis and Joseph Marra.
Son of the late Joseph A. and Gertrude Mart Zoch, he was also predeceased by sisters Gertrude Zoch Marra and Helen Zoch Gorzynski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Nassau, Thursday, February 3 at 10:00 a.m. Relative and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St., Nassau Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be St. Mary's Cemetery.
