Leila M. Duncan

Leila M. Duncan, 86, of Nassau, passed away on June 13, 2024 peacefully at home. Born in Middleburgh, NY, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Nellie Pickett. Leila grew up a “farm girl” and was always hardworking to be able to provide for her family. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and bird watching. Above all else she was a loving mother and teacher to her family. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Volney F. Duncan; son, Volney F. Duncan, Jr.; daughter, Barbara Carpenter; brothers, Kenneth Duncan, Peter Pickett Jr., David Pickett; and her sister, Anna Bosler. She is survived by her children Michael and Victor Duncan, Beverly Sisler, Virginia Robertson, Ruth Cleavland, Linda Utter, Valarie Lamphere, and Sara Cameron; 37 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Community Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Leila’s family on Tuesday, June 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau.  A funeral service will commence at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home followed by interment in Nassau-Schodack Cemetery.
