Nassau- Leona M. "Lee" (Kiburz) Slater, 87, of Nassau passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Leona was born in Rensselaerville to the late Mildred (Schanz) and Ernest Kiburz. A long-time resident of Nassau, she was the manager of Cedar Acres for over 30 years. Lee enjoyed the outdoors, going for a walk or being on the water, fishing, which she loved. She never missed an opportunity to host family dinners with her wonderful meals. She was the companion of 25 years to Richard Elliot and best friend to Sharren Phelps.
In addition to her parents, Leona was predeceased by her husband, Paul Slater, Jr. She is survived by her children, Donna (Fred) Hebert, Rebecca (Willis) Davis, and Ernest (Lindy) Slater; her grandchildren, Maria, Paul , Melanie, Stephanie, and Brian; her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Owen, Luke, and Ryker. She is also survived by her siblings, Edward Kiburz, Barbara Blenis, Kathy Thibodeau, Linda Wilsey, and George Kiburz.
At Leona's request, there will be no public services. She will be inurned with her husband privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, East Schodack.
Leona's family would like to thank the 4th Floor at St. Peter's Hospital and the Community Hospice for the compassionate care to their mother and grandmother.
