Lois Vincent

January 26, 1925 — November 3, 2014

Lois M. Vincent of Nassau, passed away peacefully November 3 at the age of 89.

Born in Clinton Heights, NY, as a young girl she enjoyed visiting and staying with her mother's relatives "up home" in Long Lake, NY and her father's family "downhome" in Ghent, NY. She was especially proud after many years of research to have been able to discover and return to the home of her Berninger ancestors in Guxhagen, Hessen, Germany in 1998.

Lois was proud of the fact she "never worked a day in her life," but was able to be a full-time housewife and mother for her family. She met her future husband when as a "hot-shot" trumpet player from Albany he took a liking to her as drum majorette in the fireman's band her father organized.

She resided in Nassau since 1954. Was a former member of the Nassau Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years, a member of the Nassau Beautification Committee and marked her 50th year as a member of the Nassau Community Band performing until August of this year.

She greatly enjoyed her flower garden, feeding backyard birds and traditional New England architecture. Lois will be sorely missed, but remembered as a daughter, wife, mother and active participant in her community.

She is predeceased by her parents Louis V. and Edith (Darrow) Berninger, sister Anna (Berninger) Dinsmoor, her husband of 49 years Harry Vincent and son, Harry, Jr. She is survived by son Kurt of Nassau and a nephew in Maryland.

A memorial service will be held at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau on Friday November 7th at 7:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home prior to the service from 5-7pm. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Donations in Lois's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered at Mooneyfuneralhome.com
