Loretta M. Norkus, 93, of Rensselaer, formerly of East Nassau, passed away December 29, 2011 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Green PA she was the daughter of the late Mack and Jessie (Donaldson) Croyle. She was very active with her husband the late Rev. George Z. Norkus Sr. D.D.S., in his ministry at the East Nassau Baptist Church. Loretta was a seamstress and a baker and an all around homemaker. She cooked for the Irish Acres Bible Camp in West Virginia and would feed everyone who set foot in her door, family or not. Loretta enjoyed traveling, reading, shopping, fishing, and was a collector of many things. She had an open heart and was a grandmother to many children not all of whom were relatives. Loretta especially loved animals and will be dearly missed by her dog, Shadow.

In addition to her parents Loretta is predeceased by her husband Rev. George Z. Norkus Sr. D.D.S., son, William G. (late,Shirley) Norkus, brothers; Harold, John, Raymond, and Earl Croyle, sisters; Velma (Howard) Lydick, Bernadette (late,Jack) McEwan, Maxine (Harry) Myers, and 3 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sons; Eugene R. (late,Barbara) Norkus of S.C., George Z. (Elizabeth) Norkus Jr. of WV, and Robert L. Norkus of MI; daughter, Nancy L. (late, John Paquin and late James) Mitchell of Rensselaer NY; brother, Mack Croyle of East Nassau NY; sisters, Ruth (late, Jerry) Dibernardo, Mary (Ronald) Krumenacker, and Marlene (Robert) Chappell; eighteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Edie Cook and Terrie Beach for their loving care of Loretta.

A celebration of Loretta's life will be held Monday January 2, 2012, 11:00am at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Sunday, January 1, 2012 from 4-8pm. Interment will be in the Nassau-Schodack Cemetery. Donations in Loretta's memory may be made to the Capital City Rescue Mission, 259 South Pearl St. Albany NY 12202.
