Margaret A. "Peggy" Sawyer, 63, of North Greenbush died on August 28, 2012 at home surrounded by her family, from a battle with breast cancer. She was born in Great Barrington, MA on September 6, 1948. She was raised in Chatham, NY and graduated from Chatham Central School in 1966. Peggy graduated from the University of Albany, and then went on to Sage Colleges and received her bachelors, and masters in business administration. She worked at the Department of Health as an administrative Aide, and then went on to be a paralegal at Oliver and Oliver. She had recently retired due to her illness from Roemer, Wallens, Gold & Mineaux LLP in Albany as a legal secretary. They treated her with such care and dignity and that will be forever cherished. Peggy enjoyed reading and taking walks in her spare time. Peggy was involved with League of Women Voters of Albany for many years, her recent position on the board was treasurer, and she also was a member of Chatham Central Alumni Association. She is predeceased by her parents, Harold O. Sawyer and Ruth E. Sawyer. Survivors include five brothers and one sister. Robert (Donna) Sawyer of Canton, MA; David Sawyer of Tampa, FL; Steven (Deborah) Sawyer of Troy, NH; Christopher (Kathryn) Cortland Manor, NY; Lawrence Sawyer of Latham, NY and Nancy Lee of Nassau, NY. She has five nieces and three nephews. Amanda (John) Gavin of Nassau, NY; Mallory Sawyer of Troy, NH; Tara Sawyer of Boston, MA; Julia Sawyer of Canton, MA; Paige Sawyer of Canton, MA; Kellen (Carolyn) Sawyer of Strafford, NH; Trent Lee of Nassau, NY and Tyler Sawyer of Cortland Manor, NY. She has one great nephew John Patrick Gavin III and one great niece Olivia Grace Gavin whom she treasured and adored so very much. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at NYOH of Latham, especially Dr. Charles Weissman and Bonnie for all their kindness and compassion showed to Peggy and family during her illness. The family also wishes to thank Community Hospice of Rensselaer County especially Robin, Gerry and Ciara for all their support and to our family on the 6th floor at Albany Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday August 31, 2012 at St. Mary's Church in Nassau. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau, Friday, prior to the service from 9:00am - 10:45am. Interment in Nassau-Schodack Cemetery.
