Matthew Menchen

July 21, 1976 — July 16, 2014

Matthew G. Menchen, 37, of Putnam Lake went home to be with the Lord on July 16th, 2014. Born in Carmel N.Y. he was the son of William G. and Margaret (DePoto) Menchen. A graduate of Brewster High School he was at one time a member of IBEW Local 3, White Plains N.Y. He enlisted with the Marines in 2000 and served our country faithfully until 2006. He was a driver for Cintas for 5 years until he decided to start his own landscaping business, Semper Fi Landscaping. Matthew was an avid athlete who enjoyed softball, football, and lacrosse and enjoyed camping with his family and friends. Matthew was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need, even if it meant putting his own responsibilities on hold. It seemed like anywhere he went everyone knew him, he had a big heart and was very patriotic. Matthew also helped others by being a member of the Veterans Club at Westchester Community College where he was taking classes. In addition to his loving parents he is survived by his grandmother, Loretta Menchen, brother, Billy Menchen, sister, Christine (Nils) Steffensen, his nieces, Lilly and Cara and his nephew Griffin. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday July 21st, 11:00am at St. Mary's Church, 26 Church St. Nassau, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau, NY on Sunday July 20th from 3-7pm. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Nassau. Following the interment everyone is invited to a reception being held at Birch Hill, 1 Celebration Way, Schodack NY 12033. In lieu of flowers donations in Matthew's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
