Nancy Ann Abatto, 81, of Schodack passed away on March 4, 2023 after a long illness.
Born in Troy, NY, she was the loving daughter of the late John William II, and Helen Greaves. Nancy grew up in Green Island and Wynantskill. She graduated from Troy High School and was an active member of the Class of 1959. She attended Becker College in Worcester, MA and Russell Sage in Troy, NY. Nancy met the love of her life, Dan, who she married in 1969.
Nancy held many jobs over her lifetime. She was proud to be a Kindergarten teacher at St. Mary's in Waterford. While raising her two children, she enjoyed working at Appleland in East Greenbush. Nancy also spent 19 years working in the library at Albany Law School, where she retired from in 2004.
Nancy had various hobbies and talents. She especially enjoyed counted cross-stitch and tole painting, making many gifts for family and friends over the years. She shared her knowledge of sewing, cooking, and crafting as a 4-H Leader. She was also a faithful member of St. Mary's Church in Nassau.
Nancy loved traveling with her husband, family, and special friends. Over the years, they made wonderful memories vacationing in Wildwood, NJ, Loon Lake in the Adirondacks, and Panama City Beach, FL. After retirement, they took many cruises and trips to Europe. You could often find Nancy relaxing on a beach, taking in the sites, playing games, eating out, or taking photos which "had to be printed" for her collection.
Nothing brought Nancy more joy than watching her four grandsons grow up. She could be found at soccer and baseball games, Boy Scout events, school concerts, rodeos, or any other activity "her boys" chose to do. She was always there cheering them on, taking them on special trips, and spending quality time making cherished memories.
Nancy is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 54 years, Daniel Abatto; children Kristin (Phillip) Meashaw of Johnstown and Matthew (Amy) Abatto of Clifton Park; grandsons, Andrew, Evan, Ryan and Nicholas; brother, John William (Eileen) Greaves III; sister, Susan (Russell) Haight; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, March 9, from 4-7pm at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home in Nassau. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church in Nassau at 11am on Friday, March 10. Interment will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Nancy's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
