Philip M. Carabateas

Philip M. Carabateas, 82, died December 6, 2012 at Albany Memorial Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. He was born in New York City and lived on Long Island for twenty five years and in Schodack for fifty seven years. A graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, he received a Doctorate Degree in chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Philip served with the U.S. Air Force in Korea during the Korean War, was a member of the American Chemical Society, a life member of the National Rifle Association and a longtime member of the Castleton Fish and Game Club. Philip worked as a senior research chemist at Sterling-Winthrop Research Institute and was author or co-author of numerous publications. Throughout his career he was issued more than forty patents.
He was predeceased by his wife Clarissa and daughter Laura. He is survived by his daughter Arlene of Troy N.Y., granddaughter's, Brandi, Sarah and Emily Shook, Gloria Shook of Valatie N.Y., brother-in-law, Alan Dedrick of Erin N.Y., and several nieces. A memorial brunch will be held January 12, 2013 at Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie at 11:00am. All are invited to attend. Contributions in memory of Philip may be made to a charity of one's choice.
