Raymond C. Smith, fondly known as "Smitty" age 81, passed peacefully from this world, after a long illness, surrounded by his family at the Stratton VA Medical Center on Monday, May 9, 2011.

Born in Albany, NY, he moved to Nassau in 1955, He was the former Town of Nassau Highway Superintendent as well as a heavy equipment mechanic and a retired Rensselaer County Highway Employee. Smitty served as Scoutmaster of former Troop 666 in Nassau. He loved to go camping, fishing and hunting and to share his knowledge and experiences with his family, scouts, and friends.

Married to the late Jean C. Smith. He is survived by and a Devoted father of Raymond C. Smith Jr. (his wife Patricia Smith) and Florence H. Sanford (her husband Larry Sanford) of Nassau, and Sharon M. Smith of East Greenbush, proud grandfather of Ryan and Justin Hotaling of East Greenbush and Jacob Smith of Nassau. Smitty is also survived by his sisters Hilda McQuade of New Scotland, Gladys Otinowski of Troy, Joan Slaver of Feura Bush and Helen (Honey) Sitterly of Rensselear. He is predeceased by his brothers Harry "Bud", Al, and Ralph, and sisters Jeanettea Wood, and Mildred Plue. Nephews who were like sons to him are Ralph Smith (Pina), Frank Wood (Judy) and Bob McQuade (Norcella).

Calling hours are Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm Street, Nassau. Service and interment will be immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery, Burden Lake Road, East Schodack .
