NASSAU-Robert J. Fromma, Jr., 68, devoted husband of 49 years to Sharon Fromma, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016.
Born on Aug. 9, 1948 to the late Robert J. Fromma Sr. and Caroline Fromma, Bob grew up in Albany before moving to Nassau in the late 1970s.
Bob worked as a mechanic at the Albany Times Union for many years and most recently at Hannaford Bros. Distribution Center in Schodack. He was a past captain and commissioner of the Nassau Fire Department, and was a certified New York State rural water operator.
Soft-spoken with a big heart, Bob was a loyal family man who was kind, witty and always willing to lend a hand. An avid horse-racing fan, Bob spent many summer days at the Saratoga Race Course. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, camping with family and was an ardent animal lover.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his dear sister, Patricia (Garry) Conway of Albany; his beloved children, Robert (Laura) Fromma, III of Herkimer; Sandra Fromma of East Schodack; and Adam (Shannon) Fromma of Wilton. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Bradley Fromma, Rachel Fromma, Jessica Fetterman, Emily Fetterman, Madison Fromma and Marek Fromma.
Family and friends are invited and may call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. in Nassau on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 7 at St. Mary's Church, 26 Church St. in Nassau. Interment will follow at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont.
