Roberta (Bobbie) S. Markell, 82, formerly of Nassau, died December 21, 2010 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Markell was born and raised in Ellenburg Depot, NY, daughter of the late Donald and Marjorie Spencer. She attended Oneonta State Teachers College and Adirondack School of Commerce in Malone, NY. She was a resident of Nassau for 37 years with her late husband Herbert F. Markell who predeceased her on their 47th anniversary in 1998. Mrs. Markell was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Nassau Resource Center. She enjoyed traveling, camping, reading and any activity that included her family. Mrs. Markell retired from Albany Medical Center Hospital as Manager of the Reservations/Information Department in 1991 where she had worked for 26 years.

Survivors include three daughters; Marcia (Douglas) Canaday of East Greenbush, NY, Karen (Barry) Nieto of Ghent, NY; Stephanie (Scott) Hunsinger of Dacula, GA; son, Jeffery (Debra) Markell of Nassau, NY; four grandchildren; Shawn (Marcy) Canaday, Kayla Canaday, Alexa Hunsinger, and Kyle Hunsinger; great grandson Drew Canaday; step great-granddaughter, McKenna George. In addition to her husband Herbert, she was predeceased by her parents and her two sisters, Louise Elias and Ruth Ellis.

Memorial Service from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau, Wednesday December 29th, at 7:00PM. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home prior to the service from 4:00PM to 7:00 PM.
