East Nassau- Sara Catherine Lindsey Weeks, age 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15th, leaving behind a legacy of love, grace, and joy. She was born in Fort Scott, Kansas, into a family of five children by Victor and Catherine Lindsey. She is survived by her sister Kathleen Hardison, and her four children, Brinan, Christian, Demery, and Eva. Born with a passion for dance, Sara spent her early years captivating audiences with her talent and elegance. Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she left home at the age of 18 and moved to Las Vegas, where she quickly made her mark performing at the MGM Grand. In November 1973, she performed in what was the biggest show in the world at that time. It was during a rehearsal for Hallelujah Hollywood that she met her now late husband Alan. They quickly fell for each other and moved to NYC in 1976. During their time in NYC, they always dreamed of having a place upstate. While Kathleen was visiting the couple in the city, they decided to explore what the mountains had to offer and ended up settling in the small town of East Nassau.
Sara's eldest, Brinan, was born in 1986 and four years later Christian was born. While Alan toured Europe with Broadway shows, Sara was at home raising the boys in Upstate New York. Five years later, two girls came along to even the playing field. She always said it was because they finally got a washer and dryer in the house. Sara was very involved in the school district, from Junior Achievement to working at the Scholastic Bookstore and organizing the annual Book Swap. Having a watchful eye over her children and encouraging other students to read and to be immersed in the pages of a book.
In the 90s and early 00’s, Sara was a passionate advocate and political activist in the community. She was a fierce democrat and championed various causes, from local town and village laws to campaigning for Kennedy and Al Gore. She was instrumental in the movement of East Nassau seceding from the town and becoming the Village of East Nassau. She was also a strong supporter of the environmental movement, advocating for renewable energy, fighting against mining in the local mountains, stopping pollution, and preserving the greenery in neighborhoods for everyone.
Despite having four children, she was a fiery spirit who always found the time to go door-to-door for petition signatures, attend every board hearing and election, and encourage people to vote and be active in the community. Her drive and energy were instilled in her children from a very young age. During this period, she was also the Director of Dance at The Academy of Holy Names for JMU for kids in Albany, NY. She was an educator and mentor to hundreds of kids in the Capital Region. This was a time in her life when she had the creative expression to share decades of music with the younger generation, forming hundreds of routines and professional performances. Through this, the kids learned poise, discipline, and how to truly feel what they were performing. Her training and passion were truly a gift to the community, benefiting both the students and their families.
Sara was not only a gifted dancer and activist but also the epitome of a loving mother who cherished every moment spent with her family. Her nurturing spirit and boundless affection made her a beloved figure in the lives of those who knew her. She had an innate ability to bring warmth and comfort to everyone she met, creating a circle of friends who became like family. Sara's beauty was not just skin deep; she possessed a soul that radiated kindness and compassion. She lived her life with an open heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her presence was a source of strength and encouragement to many, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her loving family, who will forever hold her in their hearts. As they navigate this time of loss, they find solace in the countless cherished memories and the enduring impact of her love.
