William E. Hopkins, 82, of Nassau passed away April 5, 2014. Born in Utica N.Y. he was the husband of the late Helen Sue Hopkins and son of the late Edwin W. and Claire (Feuchsel) Hopkins. Bill was a graduate of R.P.I. and started work for the State as a Civil Engineer in 1954. He designed the highway guiderail system that was adopted nationwide as the standard and was even accepted and implemented in several countries worldwide. He was awarded the N.Y.S. Excellence in Engineering Award 5 years in a row and received the Federal Excellence in Engineering Award twice. Bill was active in the community as a Shriner, a Master Mason with the former Nassau Lodge, and a member of the Commandery of Knights Templar, Hudson N.Y. Bill was also a Commander with the U.S. Power Squadron where he was an instructor of celestial navigation.

Bill is survived by his daughter Heather (Mark) Werner, son, Eric Hopkins, and sister Emily Baglione. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his son Evan Hopkins and daughter Heidi Hopkins.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6 Sylvester Street Kinderhook, NY 12106 on Wednesday April 9th at 11:00am, all are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Nassau.
