William J. Platel, 80, of Rensselaer passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital on March 20, 2021. Born in Rensselaer he was the son of the late Casper and Lillian Platel. William worked in the maintenance department for the East Greenbush Central School District for 30 years. He enjoyed camping, trips to Florida and Rhode Island and his scotch and cigars. William was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, rooting for Kasey Kahne during the NASCAR races and watching his nephew coach for the Tampa Bay Rays. He is survived by his loving wife Marcia Platel; sons, Darrell (Maureen) Lavare and Daryn (Nancy) Lavare; daughter, Desiree (Chris) Platel; sister, Dorann Stagnitta; grandchildren, Nick and Lilly Platel, Sam, Amber, Jeremy, Jessica, Katie and Kierstyn Lavare; great grandchildren; Sammy Lavare Jr., Brycen LaBeir, Paxton Hand and Levi Platel. He was predeceased by his son, Dale (Kimberly) Lavare; brother, Joseph Platel and sister Joan (Ken) Klingbeil. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association and the Northeast Kidney Foundation.
