Willis E. Hook

Willis E. Hook, 87, of Nassau passed away March 18, 2012 at Barnwell Nursing Home. Born in Chelsea VT to Eugene and Emma (Bagley) Hook he was a graduate of Martin Van Buren. Willis joined the Navy on December 9, 1941 and served aboard the U.S.S. Canberra heavy cruiser. The Canberra was used as bait for the Japanese fleet to get within range of the U.S.S. Flying Fish submarine which sank over 200,000 tons of Japanese shipping. Mr. Hook was a member of the North Chatham Baseball Team which included many great baseball players from the area. A longtime resident of North Chatham and Nassau he will be greatly missed.
Willis is survived by his son Wayne E. Hook (Susan) of Nassau, sisters, Margaret E. Hook of Nassau and Patricia Lamboy of Nassau, grandchildren, Theresa Reiser and Wayne E. Hook and five great grandchildren. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
