Young Wilcox, 63, of East Nassau passed away on July 2nd 2014. Loving wife of Bruce Wilcox. Gone too soon, our dear Young was a caring and loving mother, wife, aunt, and friend to many. She found joy in her garden and was an excellent cook, sharing the produce and meals with friends and family. She loved her family, butterflies, flowers, a night of Bingo, Wheel of Fortune, family dinners, and a good laugh. She was dedicated to the care of her husband, Bruce, especially since his stroke six years ago. Young was a loyal and committed caregiver at Riverside (formerly Resurrection Nursing Home) in Castleton, New York, where she was a valued and respected member of the staff since 1988.
Young was born in Kyongnam, Korea, and she met Bruce in Pusan, when Bruce was stationed in the Army Military Police. They began their life of 40 years together in Oakland, California where they welcomed their eldest daughter, Teresa, and later, their son Matthew. They were married on April 5, 1974, in the Court House in Oakland, California and honeymooned at Yosemite National Park. The family moved to West Stockbridge, Massachusetts in the mid '80s before finally moving to their current home in East Nassau, New York. Young took classes to prepare for her exam to attain American citizenship while still in California. She was very excited and proud of her accomplishment of attaining this goal, which included learning to speak English. She was extremely proud to call herself an American.
Young was a dedicated and strong force, skillfully caring for all those who she loved. She is survived by her husband Bruce, daughter Teresa, son Matthew, and Katherine, a daughter of the heart, Katherine's husband Justin and their newborn daughter Keira. She is also survived by Bruce's siblings Michael Wilcox of Alford, Massachusetts, Terry Wilcox D'Amour and her husband Richard of Copake, New York, Richard Wilcox and his wife Joyce Butler of Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and Sarah Wilcox Casey and her husband John of Abott, Texas. We will miss you and we are forever one in love.
