Glenn C. Billings

Nassau

Glenn Clifton Billings, age 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Evergreen Commons Health Care Facility. He was predeceased by his loving wife Marian, with whom he celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage, and their infant son Craig.

He was born in Northfield, MA on November 14, 1914, and was the son of Roger and Ruth (Osgood) Billings of Northfield, MA. The Billings family is traceable to the year 1642. He was an avid follower of family history and put in countless hours working on the family genealogy. He loved driving for hours throughout the country in his little green convertible. Glenn was a carpenter, starting with his first building of a respectable cabin at the age of 15. He was also a short order cook, and during the war worked at the Starrett Corp., as a tool and die maker. He was known for his skill and craftsmanship. He later worked at the 3M Corporation as a lease salesman.

Glenn is survived by his loving family, his son David Billings (Joyce), of Huntley, IL. His daughter, Brenda Thoma (Michael) of Nassau, NY,; Grandchildren Mark (Patricia) Billings of Elgin, IL., Dawn (Greg) Pennington, of Greenville, IL., Michael Thoma, III (Denise) of East Greenbush, NY, and Kari (Afshin) Yamin, of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Of significance was a full rainbow that appeared the day before he passed, which brought an ear to ear smile on his face.

A Celebration of his life will be on Sept. 1, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Nassau Ambulance, P.O. Box 757, Nassau NY 12123, would be appreciated.
