Laura M. Olf

CASTLETON Laura Masters Olf passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on September 17, 2012 at the age of 91. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey to Grover and Anita Masters, Laura graduated from Sidney, NY High School and Essex Community College. After college she worked for Sears Roebuck in Burlington, VT, then married Dr. Milton Olf and moved to East Greenbush, NY in 1952. Laura lived the remainder of her life in the Albany area raising a family and working as a secretary for the VA Hospital, East Greenbush Schools, and Albany Medical Center where she brightened the lives of those around her and made many friends until retirement in 1992. Since that time, she lived quietly at her home in Schodack and her camp in Grand Isle, VT. Laura was artistic: enjoyed tin-painting and stenciling, in particular, and carried her color palette outside to her flower gardens and landscape. She openly shared her love of nature and the beauty of the natural world including the spiders she openly protected from harm. She was an active, energetic woman for most of her life enjoying bicycling and hosteling in her youth and skiing(Tuckerman's Ravine, Jiminy Peak,Gore), hiking (Mt Marcy, Camels Hump) and golf (Totem Lodge, Evergreen).

Laura was a loving and outgoing person who was predeceased by her parents, her brother Grover Masters of Springfield, VT and heartbroken by the recent loss of her dearest daughter, Bonnie L. Sofia of Castleton. She is survived by loving family: sister Barbara Carlton of Tamworth, NH, son Glenn E Olf , daughter-in-law Patricia Kilgallon, and grandchildren Joshua G. Olf of Castleton, Piper Olf of Hudson, and Jaclyn DeChiro of Albany. Many nieces and nephews and their children survive in the northeast region.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm Street, Nassau, N Y on Saturday, September 22 between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. to celebrate Laura's memory and renew friendships. According to her wishes, Laura's ashes will be spread near her beloved cottage and parents in Grand Isle at a later date. In lieu of flowers those who wish may send a contribution in Laura's memory to: The Nature Conservancy, 322 8th Avenue, NY, NY 10001.
