Edward Leininger, 93 passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2012. Born in New Jersey he was the son of the late Charles G. and Katherine (Yearing) Leininger. Mr. Leininger was an extremely handy man who enjoyed his gardening and even built his own house. He believed in hard work and enjoyed working. He retired from Hamilton Printing in Castleton after thirty years of service. Edward was very involved in the community and devoted much of his life to helping others. He was a lifetime member of the East Greenbush Fire Company and was also very involved in the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Leininger was involved with the Boy Scouts for 74 years and even attended the first ever National Jamboree in Washington D.C. Ed was a recipient of the Scouts' Silver Beaver Award and the Lutheran Lamb award both of which he was very proud. He was recently honored for a lifetime of service by the town of Schodack and his local Troop BSA 522 of East Schodack where he was a former Troop Leader. Edward was a past member of the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Council and was most recently involved with the Nassau Reformed Church.

Edward is survived by his wife of eleven years Jean Kolodich Leininger, her daughters whom he called the loves of his life, Carol (Paul) Sanford, Susan (Edward) Phelps, Janet (James) DeStevens, Nancy (William) Belt and Christine Kolodich, nieces, Janet and Courtney Leininger, Kathy, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Edward was predeceased by his wife of sixty years Sylvia Leininger, brother Howard Leininger, and his nephew Howard Leininger Jr.

Funeral service from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau on Monday October 22, 2012 at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday October 21st from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, East Schodack. In lieu of flowers donations in Ed's memory may be made to Troop 522 C/O Dee Murphy 189 Burdon Lake Rd. East Greenbush NY 12061 or to the Nassau Reformed Church PO Box 495 Nassau NY 12123.
