Joseph S. Sopko, 57, of Nassau passed away Saturday November 3, 2012 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Troy NY to the late Joseph Sopko and Helen Abrams Sopko he was an archeologist and human being extraordinaire. Joe loved to read, hike, and share his knowledge of archeology and history.

Mr. Sopko is survived by his mother Helen Sopko, loving wife, Teresa Sopko of Nassau, son, Erich (Heather) Tompkins of Camano Island WA, daughter Karla Traynor Smith (Jim) of Sunnyvale CA, brothers, Stephen and Mark, sister, JoAnn, granddaughter, Samara. He is also survived by one niece and four nephews.

Funeral service Tuesday November 6, 2012 at 10:00am at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home 11 Elm St. Nassau. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Monday night from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations in Joe's name may be made to the Salvation Army 20 South Ferry Street Albany, NY 12202, Capital City Rescue Mission 259 South Pearl St. Albany NY 12202 or to the Food Pantry of the Capital District, 32 Essex Street Albany, NY 12206.
