Jerry Uhr

April 17, 1952 — August 14, 2014

Jerry Curtis Uhr, 62, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died peacefully on August 14th at his home in Nassau, NY. Jerry was born on April 17th, 1952 in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He was the youngest of three children to Edna Grace (Blackmar) and Bernard August Uhr. He grew up in Hastings on Hudson, NY and graduated Hastings HS in 1970. Jerry attended Stonybrook University and later Syracuse University where he graduated from the College of Forestry in 1974, the same year he married his high school sweetheart, Robin. Jerry worked as a financial advisor for AAL for over 30 years. He was a Nassau Village trustee for 20 years and was a member of the Nassau beautification committee. After retirement, Jerry volunteered at the Regional Food Bank in Latham, traveled, and took care of his three grandchildren.

Jerry could sail a boat, fly a plane, drive a truck, and back up a trailer with ease. He enjoyed traveling, with years of happy memories on Block Island, RI. Jerry valued family above all things and hosted family reunions every 5 years. One of his greatest joys was being Papa to his three grandchildren. Jerry was a gardener and took pride in his raspberries, fruit trees, and his mother's roses. He was handy, clever, gentle, and always giving.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Robin Elizabeth Whiting Uhr, their two daughters Emily Robin Krause and Carolyn Laura Hans, brother Donald Uhr of Atlanta, sister Laura Pennington of North Carolina, and grandchildren Adam Kyle Krause, Elizabeth Robin Krause, and Liam Jerry Hans.

Visiting hours with the family will be held on Saturday, 8/16/14 from 2-5pm at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home. 11 Elm Street, Nassau, NY. A memorial service and luncheon will take place at a future date and will be posted on Caringbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Nassau Resource Center, PO Box 495, Nassau, NY 12123 or Angel Flight Northeast, Lawrence Municipal Airport, 492 Sutton Street, North Adams, MA 01845.
