Joseph Meizinger

December 31, 1952 — May 4, 2015

Joseph Paul Meizinger , Jr., 62, of East Nassau, died May 4, 2015 in the same city in which he was born, Albany. He was surrounded by loved ones in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital as he took his last breath. Joseph had been heroically battling a glioblastoma (GBM) for about three years which is far longer than was expected, but he was strong and didn't seem to let chemo, radiation and brain surgery faze him. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph P. Meizinger, Sr. and Margaret "Peggy" Meizinger (Finlay), and is survived by his son Chad Joseph Meizinger and family including: sister Kathleen Valason, step son Scott Shufelt (wife, Jude and children, Jack and Amanda), former wife and mother to both kids Sandra Kelleher and nephew, Jeremy Valason. Joe was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S. Army as an aircraft mechanic and a door gunner on a Huey Helicopter. He received multiple medals and was qualified as an M-16 expert. When he got home from war he went right to work. Joseph retired in 2013 from his last job where he had worked for over 11 years as a mechanical coordinator for the Galesi Group. He was a devoted employee and was well respected by his peers. Joe enjoyed spending his free time with his girlfriend, Mary Ellen Bielawa, and working on his house and the land he owns in East Nassau. Throughout Joey's life, whether it was in his cars, on his motorcycles or even piloting an airplane, he loved to drive fast. He has multiple trophies from racing his Corvettes at the Lebanon Valley Dragway. Calling hours will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home 11 Elm St. Nassau, concluding with a memorial service at 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Co. P.O. box 62 Brainard, N.Y. 12024. Online condolences may be offered at Mooneyfuneralhome.com
