Malcolm A. Dawes, 94, of Schodack passed away at home on August 8, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Schodack, he was the son of the late Josiah and Edith Dawes. Mr. Dawes was a WWII Veteran serving from 1940-1945 in D Company, 106th Infantry Regiment of the 27th Division, and was later transferred to the Service Company. While in the Army, Mr. Dawes served his country in Okanawa and Saipan. Mr. Dawes went on to work for Diamond Crystal Salt as a salesman and later worked for Ryder as a mechanic. He enjoyed visiting friends at the East Greenbush Diner and True Value as well as other local establishments. Mr. Dawes was predeceased by his wife Esther G. Elliot; brother, George Dawes and sister, Rachel Middleton. He is survived by his stepsons, Tim Steele of TX and George Steele of East Greenbush; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Samantha) Steele of TX, Heather (Timothy) Thompson of East Greenbush, Barbara Steele of East Greenbush and Tara Steele of FL; brother, Donald Dawes of East Greenbush and sister, Dorothy Teeter of East Greenbush; great grandchildren, Mathieu, Jescyka, Jordan, Stephen, Ben and Sarah. He is also survived by his beloved brother-in-law, Gordon Middleton, whom he was best friends with for over 85 years as well as several nieces and nephews. A special thanks goes to Heather, Tim, Jescyka, Mathieu and Stephen for the care they provided Mr. Dawes. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
