Obituary of Gerard R. Steedman

Gerard "Jerry" Steedman, 69, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Born June 17, 1948 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Edith Mineau and Jeremiah Steedman. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Steedman. Jerry is Survived by his wife of 38 years Viki Steedman; step-son, Jeffrey Straight; brother, Thomas (Margie) Steedman; sister in law Pam Dundon as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry moved from Pennsylvania to New York to attend Albany Business School. He went on to work for the New York State Higher Education Services Corp. retiring after 30 years. Jerry oversaw mail, supply and printing. The Mail connection led him to become president of the Postal Customer Council which included public speaking that he loved dearly. Jerry enjoyed golfing and deep sea fishing. He will be greatly missed by all the friends he made through the years with school, work, golf and other outside activities. A memorial service will be held at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau on Saturday July 15th at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to call prior to the service from 9-11am. Jerry's wishes were for everyone to celebrate his life following the service at Samson's Bar and Restaurant 1736 U.S. Rt. 9, Castleton. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jerry may be made to the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
