My heart hurts a little more realizing that she fought so long to be here just a little bit longer. My heart is a little more joyous knowing she is no longer in pain. She was my neighbor for many many years and the Murray’s were always cordial. Melissa will be missed by so many.
A candle from Texas, to your hearts....bless y’all.

Melissa-We K-12’d together. You were born a teacher! I remember playing school in your 'classroom' at your house. I love those memories. You had work books and everything! You were a part of my niece’s, Tina, teaching team at Ichabod. My brother and sister-in-law spoke highly of you. Thank you. Your students and their families were lucky to know you. I was lucky to know you. You always did the right thing. Rest now.

I was fortunate to have had Melissa teach me swimming lessons at New Lebanon C.S.D. I always remember her as a great teacher, even back when she was in High School. I was able to see her again when I student taught at Ichabod Crane and she was teaching Kindergarten. I recognized her beautiful smile and never forgot her after all those years. She had such a positive impact on everyone around her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Melissa for the last 2 years while she was at Ichabod Crane CSD. In that very short amount of time, I grew to find out just how amazing she was. Melissa was one of the sweetest, kindest, most sincere people I have ever met. From her tireless devotion to education and making a forever impact in students lives, to making a huge impact in the lives of those she worked side by side with. She was a warrior in her fight against the terrible disease that eventually took her, but she never wavered from that fight. She used her situation to bring awareness to the battles that so many are fighting today. Melissa always found the silver lining...the positives...in every aspect of life. "Just make lemonade, Len", was something she said to me when I was having a tough day and nothing seemed to be going right...and to this day, I still think of that saying whenever I have a rough moment in life. But, that was just Melissa..."Make lemonade". Don't take life so seriously...take a moment and enjoy it...don't allow the little things to get you down...take a moment and look around, smell the air, smile and embrace it all! You will be forever missed, Melissa...but, you will never be forgotten. Until we all meet again at that party under the sea...rest peacefully.

I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know Melissa over a week in Ireland on a group trip back in 2004. I spent a lot of time with her and her aunt, and it was a treasured experience I will never forget. I knew of her, prior to the trip, because she was best friends with my best friend's mom, and she worked in the school district I attended. I remained connected to her even after the trip, and I consider myself lucky. She is a wonderful, warm hearted person who connected her soul to the hundreds of children she worked with. We are all so fortunate to have met and to have known such a woman. Rest in peace, Melissa.
