Obituary of Melissa Murray
Melissa Ann Murray of Castleton, NY passed away on October 25, 2018 after a hard-fought 7 year battle with cancer. Melissa was born June 8, 1962 in Pittsfield, MA the daughter of Robert and Marylynn Murray. Melissa was a 1980 graduate of New Lebanon Central School, completed her undergraduate degree in elementary education with a concentration in general science at the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY and continued her education with a Master’s degree in education and a second Master’s in school administration both from SUNY Albany.
A lifelong educator, Melissa taught religious education and swimming while still in high school, and organized and taught a summer reading class through WMHT’s Reading Rainbow program while still an undergraduate student. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree Melissa began her 34 year career at Ichabod Crane Central School where she was employed until her retirement in 2017. During her distinguished career Melissa had many roles serving as teacher, principal and district administrator. Through these roles she made such a positive impact on students, staff and members of the community that there is a book room in Ichabod Crane Primary School dedicated to her and her tireless service to the school district.
Melissa was predeceased by her brother, Robert James Murray, in 1965 and is survived by her parents Robert and Marylynn (Wear) Murray, brother Kevin Murray, beloved sister Maureen Murray, sister Elizabeth (Robert) Kroboth, nephew Nicholas Kroboth, nieces Katherine and Colleen Kroboth and great-nephew Matrim Kroboth as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 31, 10:30AM, at Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau, NY on Tuesday evening from 4-8 PM. Interment will be in Cemetery Of The Evergreens, New Lebanon.
