Bertha Sarah Laier Barth, 84, of East Nassau entered into eternal life on July 11, 2011 at the St. Peter's Hospice Inn after a long illness. Born in East Nassau, she was a life-long area resident. Bertha was predeceased by her parents Julius and Caroline Laier, husband John William Barth, siblings Elaine Bingham and Fred, Arthur, and William Laier and her loving friend and sister-in-law Audrey Barth Karmazyn.

A graduate of Averill Park High School, Bertha worked in her youth as First Teller for the National Commercial Bank in Albany. She also worked in the library at the Walter B. She was a loving wife for 50 years to her husband John and devoted mother to her four children and grandmother to her 13 grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children Kathleen (Paul) Soper, Carol Lanzara, Lori (Vivek) Choudhury and John (Nancy) Barth and by thirteen grandchildren: Christopher, Timothy, Andrew, Peter, Elizabeth (Jason Justison) and Thomas Soper; Emily (Joshua Finkel), Allegra, and Chloe Lanzara; Sanjay and Devin Choudhury; and Shawn and Trevor Barth. She is also survived by her siblings Eleanor Lansley and Anthony Laier, sisters-in-law Laurie, Jean and Lois Laier, good friends Robert and Evelyn Fuglein, Helen Mullaly and Gladys Strauss, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
