Gretchen, Donna, Susan, Jane and Russell: How saddened we are to learn that our longtime neighbor of 53 years has passed. We always enjoyed having him stop by to relay a message or ask about some neighborhood event that took place. He always watched out for my Mother who lived across the way and would be concerned if there were no lights on in the evenings. His stories of events were always enlightening and he had a way of putting a little laughter in life. He truly was a Nassau historian as there was nothing he couldn’t tell you about. We are sending our sincere condolences to you all and hope the memories will sustain you through your grief. Heaven has gained a GREAT storyteller. Love Joe & Lorraine

Jane, Please accept me and Bob's sincere sympathy at the loss of your dad. We love hearing your stories when you come back to North Carolina about the folk's and I honestly think I'd even use the phrase " how are Mom and Dad?" referring to them as we have all not had parents for a while so we kind of adopted them! I know you have so many memories of being his helper and being with him in the garage and loving cars and racing because of your time with him while growing up. He always sounded like an amazing person and it was good that he had a long and fruitful life to share with you, your mom, family and friends. Take care. Jean

Donna, Sue, Russell and family. Just say "Hoppy" every Nassau homie knew who you meant. He was a legend and I can only remember the gracious and kind words he spoke to me. I am so grateful I met him and your mom and I am most happy that I was able to get him his tomato for his tomato sandwich. We have known some of the best growing up here and your dad was in the running. Sorry for your and our loss.
