Mary J. Tryon

May 27, 1928 — October 4, 2022

Tryon (Hill), Mary Julia-

Mary J. Tryon, 94 years young, passed away on October 4th, 2022, after a courageous fight at St. Peter’s Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on May 27th, 1928, to William and Anna Hill, of Rensselaer, NY.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Reginald “Van” Tryon, her son, Phillip Tryon, her son, Paul Tryon, her son-in-law Nils Kade, her grandson, Nollan Tryon, her parents William and Anna Hill, sisters Helen Lyte, Gertie Hill and Anne Dolores, and brother William “Little Billy” Hill, Jr.

She is survived by her children, William (Jill) Tryon of South Bethlehem, NY, Marc (Eileen) Tryon of South Bethlehem, NY, Jeannine Tryon-Kade of Slingerlands, NY, and Kathleen (Barry) Sowards of Nassau, NY. Also survived by fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, soon to be nine.

Mary was a legal secretary for over forty years. She worked for many prominent Albany attorneys, including Richard Rowley, Thomas Forrest, and John Yanas. She also was secretary for 3 years to the head Librarian at the Albany Law School, Henry Tseng.

Late in life, at age 79, she began to write poetry, short stories, and share them with family and friends. Several of her stories were published in Reminisce Magazine.

All who knew her remember her as a generous giver of gifts, cards, and her love. She never forgot a family members birthday. She was an elegant lady with a heart of gold for anyone who needed help or support. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

I think we all remember her ability to be impeccably dressed and in heels no matter the situation and to do it with elegance. While the heels were gone, the elegance remained. She was still very sharp and remembering events from her youth through recent days.

She shared her love of books, history and classical music with her friends, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is now with her beloved “Van”, sons, son-in-law, grandson, parents, sisters, and brother, enjoying the next chapter and writing all about it.

The family would like to extend our greatest gratitude to the nursing, respiratory and medical staff at St. Peter’s Hospital. We will always remember your gracious humanity.
